What is eRD?
Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) is a digital service introduced by the NHS to simplify the process of issuing repeat prescriptions for patients with long-term, stable conditions. eRD allows you to get your repeat prescriptions directly from your chosen pharmacy without having to contact Priory Gate Practice or the Prescription Orderig Direct (POD) service every time.
How does it work?
Initial Setup: We have reviewed your record and determined that your medications would be appropriate to issue via eRD. We will have set the quantity of medication and the interval at which they should be dispensed usually for a 12 month period.
Choosing a Pharmacy: You will already have nominated a pharmacy for electronic prescriptions and we will have sent your prescription to them.
Collecting Medication: When it's time for your next supply of medication, you can go directly to the pharmacy. The pharmacy will have an electronic notification that tells them what to dispense to the patient.
Regular Check-ups: Though eRD reduces the need for frequent GP visits, you still need to have regular check-ups to ensure their medication and dosage remain appropriate for their condition. Your pharmacist will let you know when your eRD prescription is running out and this is the time to contact us.
Renewing or Cancelling: If the medication needs to change or is no longer required, either we or you can halt the eRD. Likewise, if the eRD expires (after the predetermined number of issues), you will need to see your GP for a review before it can be set up again.
