Phlebotomy (Blood Testing)

Blood testing is carried out at the City of Coventry Health Centre Phlebotomy service on the ground floor

Hospital Referrals

Once you have been referred, please liaise with the hospital

Test Results

It is best to ring between the hours of 10:30am and 2:00pm to receive results. Please see below for reporting times:

Please avoid busy times when calling for results.

  • Blood test results may be available after 2-3 days in most cases.
  • X-ray reports often take 2 weeks to return
  • Special scans like CT, MRI or heart scans may take longer to report (sometimes 4-6 weeks)

The receptionist will generally be able to inform you if your results are normal.

Otherwise, a telephone ring back by a doctor or nurse may be arranged, but usually on another day.

Please note we have a strict policy of confidentiality with sharing results and we will not release information to relatives or carers unless by prior written consent.

Long term medication annual review

If you are on repeat medications, you should expect to be called for a review around your birthday month every year.

You may be offered a health check including blood tests, a specialist nurse review of your long-term conditions, a medication review by a pharmacist or doctor, and a complex care review if you have specific needs.

During this period of review, you may have delays in accessing your medication, until it has been reviewed and re-authorised for another year. Attending your appointments when requested will speed up this process and avoid any delays.

Travel Vaccinations

Please make an appointment with a practice nurse at least 6 weeks in advance of your holiday, to make sure that you are well protected. If you leave insufficient time we cannot guarantee that the vaccinations will be effective, or that we will be able to fit you in.

Mother & baby postnatal Health checks

How we look after you and your baby after you have given birth

After birth, your baby has a physical health check by your midwife.

We repeat this check at 8 weeks of age, to check for any health problems, and usually perform the first set of vaccinations at the same appointment.

We like to review the mother's health at around the same time as the baby check.

This appointment is to review your physical and emotional recovery after birth and to address any contraceptive needs.

Contraception

Most of our clinicians can discuss contraception with you. There are several options available, and we aim to find the safest and most effective type for you, including in emergencies.

We can prescribe pills and can arrange appointments for contraceptive injections, implants and coils and emergency contraception.

Emergency contraception

The Practice offers emergency contraception, which can be taken up to 72 hours after having unprotected sexual intercourse.

If there are no routine appointments, please ensure Reception staff know that you require this service and they will arrange for you to be called promptly.

Carers

If you care for a family member or friend with a disability, illness or frailty, or a child with special needs please inform the doctor or nurse when you see them. We like to highlight this in your notes so we can offer you support and flexibility when you are accessing our services.
