We understand that some patients may need letters to support asylum or immigration cases.
However, GPs are not required under the NHS contract to provide these letters, as they are not part of NHS-funded medical care.
What we can do
- We can provide factual medical information if it is requested in writing by your solicitor, the Home Office, or a court.
- This will only include details that are directly relevant to your health and that are already recorded in your medical notes.
- We will need your written consent before sharing this information.
- In some cases, this may be classed as private (non-NHS) work and a fee may apply.
What we cannot do
We cannot write letters of support or personal statements about:
- Why you should be granted asylum or leave to remain
- Your personal character, living situation, or family circumstances
- Non-medical reasons for your asylum or immigration case
These letters are not part of NHS-funded GP services and are best provided by your solicitor or an asylum support organisation.
